Creative Writing Challenges
Throughout the year, our English Department collaborates with our Librarian, Library Leaders and Post-16 Literacy Ambassadors to run various creative writing challenges for our students, this may include story writing, poetry writing and much more. Please see below for a compilation of current challenges as well as previous entries into our challenges.
We Will Sing: Letters to the Future Writing Competition (Deadline: 24.3.25)
Calling all writers – There will be a new art installation opening at Salts Mill and we would love to have letters from you to be part of the exhibition.
You need to write a Letter to the Future. A selection of the letters will be read aloud as part of the exhibition, published in the We Will Sing: Letters to the Future newspaper or reproduced on the website.
The deadline is 24th March. Please submit your entries to your English teacher or Ms. Weston in 2c2. If you would like any further information, ask your English teacher, or Ms Weston

Grim Tales Writing Competition (Deadline: 2.4.25)
What would I have to do?
- Write your own grim/spooky mini saga – a story in just 100 words.
- Base it upon a traditional fairytale but twist it up and tell the villain’s side.
- Or you could write about folklore, urban legends or myths.
- Just make it original and make it grim!
What could I win?
- Top prize of an iPad Mini.
- £1,000 for your school if you win.
- Runner up prizes of £50 each.
- A chance for your work to be selected for publication in a book.
- Bragging rights!
How do I enter?
- Get an entry form from Mrs Pearson in 3C4, or your teacher.
- Hand in your story to Mrs Pearson in 3C4 by 2nd April.
- Optional: After school club on Tuesdays for 30 minutes in 3C4 with Mrs Pearson – for inspiration and to work with others.
