Enrichment
Progression Module
This qualification provides 12 UCAS points for the following local universities: University of Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Trinity University.
Suitable for students who wish to attend HE, apprenticeships and employment
Unit 1: Work experience preparation, career planning, CVs and letters of application
Unit 2: HE and employment finance budget planner
Unit 3: HE and employment decision making exercises
Unit 4: Mock interviews, presentation skills and writing personal statements
EPQ (Extended Project Qualification)
Suitable for students studying A Levels and planning to attend competitive Universities and/ or competitive courses. E.g. medicine, dentistry, veterinary, marine biology, computer science etc.
EPQ is an independent research project which involves writing an essay of 5000 words (that's around 10 typed pages), or creating a product, which might be anything from an art object to an iPhone app. As the project evolves, you must complete a production log to record specific stages of the project and this also contributes to your project result. The third component of the project is an oral presentation. It’s worth the same UCAS points as an AS level with an A* grade available. Your project will be submitted in year 13.
Sports Leadership
Suitable for students taking sport and non-sport courses but looking to have practical leadership experience. Understanding the difference between a leader, coach and teacher. Covering ‘duty of care’, ‘safeguarding’, undertaking risk assessments and understanding the lifelong benefits to sport. Suitable for sports rehabilitation, sports therapy, sports coaching, sports journalism, events management, public services related courses and physiotherapy.
Work Experience
Are you interested in a vocational course such as nursing, midwifery, medicine, teaching, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sports coaching? It’s valuable to have experience for university/ job applications.
You can arrange your own work experience with the support of Vicky Sutcliffe will give you the relevant health and safety forms once you have found a placement to visit weekly.
Trips
Throughout the year we organise a number of external trips that students are invited to.
These might include an outdoor activity centre, museums that give students an insight into different ways of life or careers in STEM, or even theatres to watch a classic play or the latest West End hit!
Recent visits have included Nell Bank Outdoor Education Centre, the National Science and Media Museum and the Grand Theatre in Leeds to watch Opera North.
